NICE (click here for pictures)
It's time to start studying for finals, but my brain is still in Nice on vacation! It was just what I needed... Grenoble was starting to turn into too much of a bubble with the same places, same faces, and the same issues coming up over and over again. I needed to get OUT. So I did :) I found a great deal online for 4 nights in a hotel and round trip train fare for €180! Sounded too good to be true, but all was well. So anyways, the first night we were there we were woken up at about 4am by rain pounding on our skylight and waves of thunder rolling off of the sea, into the mountains and back again. Lightning topped it all off and was so bright that each time it struck I was momentarily blinded. Needless to say, didn't get much sleep that night.
Next day we went to Monte Carlo to see the casino and to check out the town, but the weather was pretty crappy and they wanted €10 just to get in the casino, so we just turned around and went back. The drive there was BEAUTIFUL though. The bus followed a road that hugged the cliffs on the coast, winding through ritzy towns with beautiful homes... I decided that if I ever end up with a lot of money I'm buying a house on the bay just outside of Nice. Quiet and beautiful. Anyways, we ended up back in Nice just in time for the clouds to clear up and spent the afternoon exploring the waterfront a bit, although it was still pretty chilly. So we ate at a fabulous Italian restaurant and called it an early night.
Sunday was spent outside enjoying the sunshine... Walking around the old part of Nice through the outdoor market, rollerblading up and down the promenade, hiking up the hill to the old castle (not really much of a castle..) and catching some sun. It felt really good to just relax for a bit, and not worry about anything having to do with school or personal politics. It felt good to smile again and not feel as if it were forced, and it felt good to do what I wanted to do and enjoy being here. It started getting too easy to forget how much I love it here.
Monday we were supposed to go visit some caves in a nearby town, but ended up wasting €26 on a round trip bus ride to go have lunch in some little tiny town, turn around and come back because we missed our connecting bus.. It was frustrating. But oh well. Live a little learn a little. All in all it was a great weekend, and it gave us the opportunity to catch some sun while the rest of France was getting rained on (Grenoble even got some snow while we were gone).
So now it's time to start studying for finals and to try to start getting back in shape for this summer, then I'm off to Madrid at the end of May. Don't know how much of an opportunity I'll get to update this thing from here on out, but keep checkin up on me :) Miss everyone.
